Sony is back with an all-new Xperia flagship and it looks set to be their best phone yet. The latest Xperia 1 V might look pretty similar to its predecessors but this device now includes a new camera which helps boost its low-light performance and create images that should look packed with pixels no matter what time of the day they are shot. Sony says its latest CMOS image sensor is now around 1.7 times larger than the previous Xperia flagship which not only improves overall image quality but also boosts the phone’s zoom capabilities.
There’s also a bunch of other camera technology to make sure every shot is perfect including high-performance real time auto focus, Real-time Eye tracking and AI depth which analyses distance information so everything stays in focus. Of course, just like previous Xperias, the 1 V has a full pro mode so users can make precise adjustments and use the phone more like a DSLR camera.
With the explosion of people making home movies for social media platforms, Sony is also improving the vlog experience on this new device. When shooting videos the camera can shift the focus automatically between a product and your face to make things look a little more professional and a new voice priority mic helps voices get heard even in busy environments.
So that’s the new camera but what else can owners expect?
Tucked under the hood is the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor which is not only faster but also more efficient which means it should last longer between refills. There’s also a stunning 6.5-inch 4K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and powerful speakers should make the nightly boxset binges sound better. A 5,000mAh battery gives all-day battery life and it supports wireless and fast charging with Sony promising that a 30-minute boost will offer 50 percent back in the tank.
Sony has also refreshed the materials that make up the 1 V with this device covered in a specially textured surface that should help to stop it from slipping through your fingers.
It’s 5G ready, has Wi-Fi 6 technology and you can even use the Xperia 1 V as a wireless charging pad to top up your other devices.
The Xperia 1 V will be available in late June for approximately £1299. It will be available in black, platinum silver and khaki green.
Although that price is pretty punchy, there is an offer that might help soothe the financial pain.
Sony says that those pre-ordering will get its award-winning WH100XM5 headphones, worth over £300, thrown in for free.
“The needs of our customers are always at the forefront of our product development and thepossibilities for creation by both photo and video with Xperia 1 V are limitless,” said GildasPelliet, Head of IP&S, Sony Europe. “Aas our flagship smartphone it allows for the next level ofcontent creation, viewing experience, gaming performance, battery life and audio capabilities.”
