You will get a notification if your Uber driver takes an ‘unexpected route’ during the trip – Times of India
Uber has introduced a number of safety features for riders in India, including the feature that will notify riders if their driver takes an ‘unexpected route’ during the trip. Further, the ride-hailing app has introduced a series of additional safety features, including rear seat belt reminders, the third iteration of RideCheck, and an SOS button within the app.
Uber RideCheck, ensures the safety of both the passengers and the driver. The safety protocol informs emergency dispatchers if it feels something is wrong during the ride, and the passengers and driver receive a notification asking if everything is fine, they can confirm the same using the app or contact Uber’s Safety Line. Uber says that passengers can contact the helpline for up to 30 minutes after a trip has ended
The feature, which until now used to alert passengers if the driver took a long halt, will now also notify passengers in case the driver takes an unexpected route at any point before the arrival.
Uber will remind you to wear seat belts on rear seat
In line with the central government’s push to have four-wheeler passengers compulsorily use seat belts in the rear seat, Uber has introduced ‘rear seat belt reminder,’ which would send riders an audio reminder to wear seat belts even if they are sitting at the rear seat.
Another safety feature to be announced is the ‘SOS’ button, which works in conjunction with the city police. The feature is currently available in Hyderabad, and the ride-hailing app is in talks with major metro cities for expansion. Using this ‘SOS’ feature, users can share the vehicle and driver details, and their live location with police, in case of emergency.
