Today’s era is full of people facing troubles with their mental health. Every second person is under stress in a chaotic environment. No doubt, there are variations in reasons for everyone. Some people are facing issues with their studies, some are stressed due to their job and some worried about their personal relations. Thus, life isn’t a bed of roses. We need to learn to cope up with the issues, to relieve ourselves and stick to our goals. I attended some patients in Al Noor Hospital, Lahore who were struggling with their mental health during my house-job. It was a learning experience for me along with them.
This experience made me aware of people’s problems. I learnt to improve my communication skills, my empathy and the ways to treat them.
Ways to Treat Your Anxiety:
The methods of treatment vary person to person and problem to problem. Human mindset is something interesting to deal with. I’ll love to share some of the effective ways to treat anxiety. I have experienced these ways as the most fruitful ones.
- Know Your Worth:
We all need to learn that no one is going to be with us always. Your friends can’t be there 24/7. It’s only you. You have to know your value and take care of yourself. Notice what actions are there to trigger you. It can be the times, the people, the words or the places. Note them down and just steer away from all of those triggers. It’s always better to ponder over the causes and know what is affecting you. Then, just change your anxiety into a solution by using your skills of critical thinking.
- Make a Diet-plan:
Making a Diet-plan and following it is the most fruitful way. We have no idea how effective our diet is. It isn’t responsible for our physical health but for our mental health too. Note what to eat and what not. Hire a nutritionist if possible and take guidance.
- Steer away from cigarettes and other tobacco products
- Don’t rush towards alcohol
- Make your counts of tea and coffee cups less in a day
- To lessen the caffeine in our diet, eat chocolate in a less amount.
- Avoid fizzy drinks
Elsewhere, some medicines to relieve headache and some diet pills can also be a hazard for your health. So, be motivated to make yourself healthy and stick to your diet.
- Stay Fit!
Being fit is everyone’s ideal dream. No one wants to be lazy and drowsy always. A daily walk for 30 minutes is a requisite. Let your body move and let your body ache when you do stretching for the first day. Exercise is an essential part of our overall health. Workout at least 3-5 days a week. We all are well aware of the fact that a healthy body has a healthy mind. Thus, staying athletic will help you fight your anxiety. Have some sessions with a physical therapist. Enjoy your working out time. Choose a song you love and play it for your exercise time!
- Go for Acupuncture Treatment:
Some people might not be aware of this treatment method. So, let me tell you that this is a technique in which your skin is pierced at certain points using needles. Anxiety can be reduced using this method, when cortisol will be inhibited and released in a less amount. It can give instant outcome unlike usage of using pills. Patients receive almost 10-12 sessions and each of 30 minutes for complete cure. However, the number of courses and the effect of treatment varies person to person. I recommended a few of my patients to go to an acupuncturist in Lahore to get this treatment done. It alleviated their stress and depression.
- Maintain Sleep Cycle:
Your sleep cycle needs to be well maintained. It has become a faulty trend for everyone to stay awake till night and then sleep for the next half day. This isn’t how life goes on. You have to leave your screens and mobile phones at night. You have to follow some rules, sleep on time and wake with full contentment. Your sleep time must be peaceful and restful. Furthermore, it shouldn’t be less than 8 hours. Pay heed to your sleep. Make your bed, clean it and turn it into a comfy one.
Gear Yourself Up!
Sit and contemplate! Think! Think critically what is causing you stress. Think about what needs to be removed from your life. Decide either it’s your studies, your exams, your job or your relationships. You have to decide your specific time just to worry about it. After identifying, you have to become a problem solver. Try to cut back that trigger from your life. Stay firm and stay positive!
