Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou Postponed, Indian Esports Contingent Will Have to Wait

Players were waiting to check out the Esports event s at the 19th Asian Games, but unfortunately, Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou has been postponed.

The news of postponement comes from a press release by Olympic Council of Asia. Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) and the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC), the OCA Executive Board (EB) have come together to make the decision of postponing the 19th Asian Games set to be held in Hangzhou. The new dates for the Games will be announced after further discussions between the OCA, the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) and HAGOC.

The dates that the Asian Games 2022 were scheduled for was September 10, 2022, to September 25, 2022. The event has now been postponed and no dates have been announced, players think that the possibility of the event taking place also seems bleak now. Here is the reason that was provided for the postponement of the esports event:

HAGOC has been very well prepared to deliver the Games on time despite global challenges. However, the above decision was taken by all the stakeholders after carefully considering the pandemic situation and the size of the Games.

The pandemic has been a terror for events since it begun in 2019, 3 years down the line, it is still damaging people’s enjoyment. A new wave of infection has been observed in China and this decision is being made so that the virus does not travel to other places as many countries will be participating in such a renowned sports event.

This is not the only event that has been postponed by the committees, the 3rd Asian Youth Games that was scheduled to take place from December 20, 2022 to December 28, 2022, to be held in Shantou, has also been postponed. As the games have already been postponed once before, they will be completely cancelled. the next Asian Youth Games will therefore be held in 2025 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
