New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi are the latest players to pull out of The Hundred. Williamson is looking to manage an elbow injury that has troubled him for the past six months.

He will, however, stay on in the United Kingdom with the team he signed up for, Birmingham Phoenix, in a mentoring capacity, according to ESPNCricinfo. Afridi, who was also signed with Phoenix, has withdrawn due to his commitments with Pakistan, who tour the Caribbean during the Hundred’s window from July 21-August 21.

Australia spinner Adam Zampa is also expected to pull out as he is part of Australia’s limited overs tours of the West Indies and Bangladesh.

Earlier, Australia’s David Warner, Marcus Stoinis and New Zealand women’s star Sophie Devine pulled out of The Hundred due to clashes with international commitments, pandemic-related travel restrictions.

Meanwhile, South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is set to join Welsh Fire. Ngidi is likely to be available for five games after South Africa’s limited-overs tour to Ireland as a replacement for Australia’s Jhye Richardson. New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham, who has been playing for Essex in the T20 Blast, is expected to fill in for Ngidi at the start of the tournament.
