CS:GO – New Evidence Suggests a Sequel to the Hit Shooter Title Could Be Announced This Month

Counter-Strike fans might want to hold on to something, as shocking news about a potential sequel has been swirling around the internet.

Earlier this month, dataminers found information about NVIDIA adding driver supports to two unknown executables called “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe”. This sparked a rumor about Valve potentially unveiling a sequel to the now-decade old Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Within a week after the NVIDIA discovery, the rumors have intensified with journalist Richard Lewis’ latest substack article. The report suggests that the rumors were indeed true, as Valve has been working on a new entry in the iconic series for a long time.

Lewis shared that he obtained the information from sources close to the development of the game at Valve. He said that the game will be released as a beta anytime this month, with the working title of Counter-Strike 2.

The report also mentions that the game has been a priority for the developers at Valve. The title’s production has been a major reason why problems CS:GO have largely been left alone, as the developers polish the CS-2 experience for its beta release.

Regarding the game’s features, Lewis revealed that it would use Valve’s Source 2 engine, which will improve the visual side of things tremendously. Plus, the developers will also introduce 128 tick servers at launch as well.

Finally, a new matchmaking system is also in the works. This will allow players to finally say goodbye to third-party software that provided a much better competitive experience compared to the standard CS:GO matchmaking system.
