Xbox Is Looking To Improve Relations With Square Enix, Reveals Phil Spencer

It’s long been rumoured that the relationship between Xbox and Square Enix has been sour. It’s no surprise as well, given how few Square Enix titles have made their way to Xbox in the last few years. Final Fantasy XVI, one of the major games to release this year, is a Sony exclusive and won’t be heading for Xbox.

Phil Spencer has now confirmed that there is indeed some problem between Microsoft and Square Enix by saying that he’s working on improving the relations.

Xbox’s Relationship With Square Enix

Alex Aniel, a Business Development Manager in the video games industry, took to Twitter to reveal his conversation with Phil Spencer. As per Aniel, they talked at GDC where he asked Spencer for his thoughts on Japan. Spencer said he admires and respects the industry in Japan but he admitted that Xbox will be perceived as the “away team” there. Xbox head Spender also added that he’s working to improve Xbox’s relationship with Square Enix.

Redfall’s Disastrous Launch

Phil Spencer recently gave an interview to Kinda Funny where the recent release of Redfall was discussed. Xbox boss said he takes responsibility, and is also disappointed with the reception. “There’s nothing that’s more difficult for me than disappointing the Xbox community and just kind of watch the community lose confidence, be disappointed; I’m disappointed, I’m upset with myself”, said Spencer.

“I also note that these games are $70 and I’m gonna take full responsibility for launching a game that needs to be great”, Spencer admitted.

Next Stop: Starfield

After Redfall’s troubled launch, and failure to deliver 60 FPS on day one, Xbox fans are understandably worried. All eyes now turn towards Starfield which will be Xbox’s other major launch this year and a highly anticipated game.

We’ll be seeing more of the game at the Starfield Direct, set to start right after the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11. Starfield will be releasing this year on September 6.
