Jio: Reliance Jio mobile subscribers up in February, Airtel close second: TRAI – Times of India

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel together added 19.8 lakh mobile subscribers month-on-month in February, while Vodafone Idea lost 20 lakh customers. The numbers are as per the data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
In percentage terms, Airtel registered a 0.27% growth in February, followed by Jio at 0.24%. Vodafone Idea logged 0.83% subscriber decline.
Reliance Jio added highest number of subscribers
India’s largest telecom player Jio added nearly 10 lakh subscribers – the highest among all three telcos. Jio’s wireless subscriber tally reached 42.71 crore users in February.
Airtel gained 9.82 lakh mobile users during February and it had 36.98 crore subscriber base at the end of the month.
Vodafone Idea lost 20 lakh wireless subscribers as its number of customers fell to 23.79 crore, the TRAI report said.

Total mobile subscribers fall
According to the report, total wireless subscribers decreased from 114.301 crore at the end of January 2023, to 114.196 crore at the end of February, registering a monthly decline rate of 0.09%.
Furthermore, wireless subscriptions in urban areas decreased from 62.7 crore at the end of January 2023 to 62.6 crore at the end of February 23. When it comes to rural areas, wireless subscriptions decreased from 51.589 million to 51.560 crore during the same period.
This corresponds to monthly decline rates of urban and rural wireless subscription of 0.12% and 0.06%, respectively.

Jio leads market share
Jio has the maximum 37.41% market share, followed by Airtel at 32.39% and Vodafone Idea at 20.84%.
As on February 28, the private access service providers held 90.63% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers, had a market share of only 9.37%, TRAI said in its report.
The report also mentioned that the total Broadband Subscribers increased from 83.918 crore at the end of January to 83.933 crore at the end of February 23.
