Erling Haaland slaps Gary Neville after Jamie Carragher insults Man City ace

Haaland wasted no time in opening his account for the season from close range before doubling his tally with a sublime curling finish before the break. Rodri went on to put the icing on the cake for City as the clock ticked down before Burnley were reduced to ten men as Anass Zaroury was dismissed for a heavy lunge on Kyle Walker.

City’s two-goal hero was later interviewed by Neville and Carragher on Sky Sports but had some trouble understanding the latter’s thick Liverpool accent. Haaland was asked to describe his second goal of the night but was clearly not on the same page as Carragher, who saw the funny side of the exchange.

The former Liverpool defender laughed before telling Haaland: “You’re a great goalscorer but you’ll never be a pundit,” to which he simply replied: “Thank you for that, mate. Appreciate that.”

Haaland went on to walk back past the Sky Sports panel after his interview and could not help himself from giving Neville a cheeky slap as he strolled by. Neville looked shocked for a brief moment but eventually began to laugh, with Haaland not even breaking his stride as he flicked his arm out on his way back down the tunnel.

It was yet another productive night for the 23-year-old, who broke the record for the fastest opening goal of a Premier League season by finding the net after just three minutes and four seconds. He was involved in a heated discussion with Pep Guardiola as the players trudged off at half-time, with the City boss storming on to the pitch before shouting at his striker.

Guardiola was quick to insist after the final whistle that there was no bad blood between himself and Haaland, saying: “He wanted the ball in behind to him and that ball hasn’t got to be in behind. Sometimes you have to be patient to find the right moment.

“He was not frustrated, I am not frustrated. In football it happens. Don’t be dramatic. He always wants the ball to him, every time, but this is not possible with man-to-man.”
