A new iMac? Apple may be planning surprise announcement for a new Mac in October

Apple may be planning to launch a new iMac sometime by the end of October. The current gen iMac was launched almost two and a half years ago, and is powered by the M1 SoC. Naturally it is due for a massive update, namely the M2 line of SoCs

As October draws to a close, Apple enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the release of new products, amid a flurry of rumours about forthcoming iMacs and iPads. After weeks of anticipation and speculation, it appears that the highly anticipated 24-inch iMac is finally on its way, with an expected release date as early as October 30th.

This exciting development comes after a prolonged dry spell of almost two and a half years since Apple launched the M1 iMac in the first half of 2021.

Renowned tech analyst Mark Gurman shared this news in his latest edition of the “Power On” newsletter for Bloomberg. Gurman has been a trusted source of Apple-related insights, and he has previously predicted that the new iMac will be powered by an M3 chip.

Gurman revealed that he was informed about Apple’s plans for a Mac-centric product launch towards the end of this month. Moreover, for those considering ordering the new iMac, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, or the higher-end Pro models, it’s worth noting that some of their configurations won’t be available for shipping until November.

Gurman interprets this as a “clear sign” that something significant is brewing in Cupertino. He pointed out that the last time Apple postponed its earnings announcement until after October, it coincided with a major Mac and iPad product reveal.

While the 14- and 16-inch Pro laptops received updates in January, the 13-inch MacBook Pro has gone without significant changes for over a year. Additionally, the 24-inch iMac is approaching its third year with the same chip, which has only heightened the anticipation for this upcoming refresh.

Gurman’s insights extend to future Apple products as well. In response to a reader’s query about the next MacBook series, he anticipates that these laptops may receive internal upgrades and perhaps “minor improvements to displays,” but major changes are not expected until a new iMac Pro debuts in 2025. Following that, OLED MacBook Pros are predicted to arrive in 2026, likely featuring updated designs and enhanced features.
