Asian Para Games: Sumit Antil wins gold with record throw in Javelin F64 event

On the third day of the 4th Asian Para Games, Sumit Antil and Pushpendra Singh showcased their prowess in the men’s Javelin Throw-F64 final, securing the top positions on the podium.

As reported by ANI, Sumit achieved a remarkable feat by breaking records, including the Asian Para Games, World record, and Asian record, with a throw of 73.29 meters. He achieved this performance during his third attempt of the day, securing the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Pushpendra Singh secured the bronze medal in the same event.

Arachchige Samitha from Sri Lanka earned the silver medal with an impressive throw of 62.42 meters, while Pushpendra Singh secured the second position with a throw of 62.06 meters, also claiming a silver medal.

India’s overall performance has placed them in the fifth position, having amassed a total of 36 medals, including 10 gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze medals.

The Indian contingent will be keen to replicate the success of Day 1 as they ended with 17 medals – 6 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze.

India has made a significant presence at the fourth edition of the Asian Para Games, sending 303 athletes, consisting of 191 men and 112 women. This marks the largest contingent from India to participate in the continental event.

In the 2018 Asian Para Games, India sent a total of 190 athletes and achieved remarkable success by securing 72 medals, including 15 gold medals. It was their best performance at the quadrennial event up to that point.
