Bayern Munich ‘hastily cancel private jet’ for Harry Kane transfer meeting

Reports in Germany claim Bayern Munich chiefs hastily cancelled a private jet on Thursday night that was supposed to take them to London for face-to-face transfer talks with Tottenham over Harry Kane. The Bavarian giants are seeking to close a deal for the England captain as quickly as possible after receiving encouragement that the 30-year-old frontman wants to make the shock move to the Allianz Arena following positive discussions with Thomas Tuchel.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Marco Neppe were due to depart Munich for London this morning but it has now emerged their plans to travel hit an unexpected late snag.

BILD say a collective decision was made to cancel the plane on Thursday night, sparking an element of mystery as to whether the talks will actually take place today as planned.

The report references that the call was likely made because Bayern fans managed to identify the jet on flight-tracking websites before sharing the intel across social media.

It had been already widely documented in both England and Germany that the talks were due to take place meaning the exposure of the private jet was hardly a groundbreaking plot twist.

That said, Bayern are keen to operate both professionally and efficiently to ensure they do not disgruntle Tottenham, who are already reluctant to lose their all-time record goalscorer.

Last week, there were fears Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness may have scuppered their hopes of landing Kane when he publicly declared the player had already given the club his word that he would sign on the dotted line.

Spurs are desperate to keep hold of their talisman but know they will have to consider a sale before the September 1 transfer deadline to avoid losing their indispensable leader on a free in the summer of 2024.

Kane has made it clear internally that he won’t be signing a new contract this summer meaning Tottenham’s backs are now firmly against the wall.

There have been suggestions within the past few days that the Tottenham hierarchy are now leaning towards a sale to ensure new boss Ange Postecoglou can move forward without the lingering saga hanging over his head.

The Aussie has refused to offer assurances that Kane will be staying put despite positive discussions with the player and although Kane is unlikely to force through a transfer, it’s thought he would favour a departure.

In Germany, there have even been widespread reports that Kane’s wife Kane has visited Bavaria to make checks on international schools for their children ahead of the move.

Bayern have so far failed with two formal offers and they are ready to improve their bid to £86m (€100m) to try and get the deal over the line before the start of the new Bundesliga season.

Paris Saint-Germain are also at the table but Kane has little interest in moving to the Parc des Princes as he is totally sold on the Bayern project following his meeting with Tuchel.

The German champions could soon have their budget bolstered by the sale of Sadio Mane who is in talks over a move to Al Nassr.

The Saudi Arabian side are willing to pay Bayern £31.5m for the ex-Liverpool attacker and he looks set to quit Bayern are just one miserable season in Bavaria following his 2022 summer switch from Anfield.

Mane’s departure is not imminent but it is now edging closer which will only help Bayern’s cause in their quest to land Kane.
