Bhuvneshwar Kumar feels T20 format produces many talented cricketers | Cricket News – Times of India
Blistering knocks by Deepak Hooda and skipper Hardik Pandya guided the visitors to a seven-wicket win in the rain-curtailed first T20I of the two-match series, here at Malahide Cricket Club Ground.
After heavy rain, the regulation 20 overs were reduced to 12 per side with revised conditions. The powerplay was from one to four overs, with only three bowlers who can bowl two overs and two bowlers who could bowl three overs.
Bhuvneshwar took one wicket and conceded 16 runs in his three-over spell.
“Yes, I did enjoy bowling. There was a bit of swing with the new ball. It was much better to bat after 4-5 overs. Doesn’t matter what format it is, if you get these kinds of wickets, it is always good to bowl Test-match line and length,” said Bhuvneshwar during post-match presentation.
Pacer Umran Malik earned his maiden India cap, and Bhuvneshwar feels that T20 is a format that produces many cricketers.
“Umran made his debut, few more (players) yet to make, so we have a lot of exciting talent. This (T20) is the kind of format that produces many cricketers,” said Bhuvneshwar.
Coming to the match, Hooda smashed 47 runs off 29 balls to remain undefeated and Hardik played a knock of 24 runs off 12 balls, which helped India chase down the target of 109 runs in just 9.2 overs for a seven-wicket win.
Earlier, Harry Tector’s unbeaten 64 guided Ireland to 108/4. Bhuvneshwar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya and Avesh Khan took one wicket apiece for India.
India now lead the two-match series 1-0, with the second T20I scheduled for Tuesday.
Bhuvi now has most T2OI wickets in powerplay
Bhuvneshwar achieved the feat of most T20I wickets in powerplay when he dismissed Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie off the fifth delivery of the innings.
It was the 34th T20I wicket in powerplay for the India pacer.
Bhuvneshwar surpassed former West Indies spinner Samuel Badree and New Zealand pacer Tim Southee who have claimed 33 wickets each in T20I powerplays.
