Decisions taken by consensus: Anurag Thakur | More sports News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: After his meeting with protesting wrestlers during which the government agreed to meet several of their demands, Union sports minister Anurag Thakur said talks were positive and all decisions were “arrived at unanimously” and that the discussions took place in a cordial atmosphere.
“The wrestlers have demanded that the investigation should be concluded, and a chargesheet be filed by June 15. The chargesheet will be filed by June 15 and the WFI elections will be held by June 30. WFI will have an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) headed by a woman. Also, two names of coaches have been suggested by the wrestlers who will be part of the ad hoc committee for technical assistance. All these decisions on demands/suggestions were taken by consensus,” Thakur said.

“We were told that the police investigation into the case will be complete by June 15. Till then, we were asked to wait and suspend the protest. The police will also withdraw FIRs filed against the wrestlers,” said Sakshee.
Apart from the Olympian duo, the meeting was attended by Sakshee’s husband Satyawart Kadian and men’s74kg freestyle wrestler Jitender Kinha. Vinesh Phogat, a prominent face of the protest, wasn’t part of the discussions as she was attending a pre-scheduled panchayat in her village Balali in Haryana. The wrestler s refused the minister’s request for a joint statement since they want to discuss the issue with Vinesh.
In another important decision, Thakur said a consensus was arrived at not to allow Singh, who has completed three terms as president, and his associates to contest the upcoming WFI elections. This might prove to be difficult because in a democratic set-up, the government can’t stop eligible candidates, who are part of the WFI’s electoral college, from contesting for any of the office-bearers’ positions in the federation.
Sources said the meeting took place a day after home minister Amit Shah had an informal telephonic conversation with Bajrang, following which Thakur tweeted, inviting the wrestlers to come for talks with the government. Prompted by Shah’s call, Bajrang and other wrestlers decided to meet the sports minister to find ways to end their more than a month-long agitation.
It’s the second round of talks which the wrestlers have had with the government in five days. Bajrang, Sakshee and Kadian had met Shah at his official residence late Saturday evening to push for their demands.
