Google Pay introduces UPI Lite for faster small-value transactions – Times of India

Google Pay has introduced UPI Lite, a feature that lets users make quick and simple UPI transactions without having to enter their UPI PIN, allowing them to make one-click transactions.
With UPI Lite, users can make fast payments even during peak hours. It has a higher success rate compared to conventional UPI payments.
What is UPI Lite
UPI Lite enables users to make a number of UPI payments of small amounts quickly and without worrying about transaction limits. This payment system ensures a seamless and hassle-free experience for users.
One of the benefits of UPI Lite is that it streamlines the bank passbook by eliminating small-value transactions from it. Instead, these payments are only displayed in the Paytm balance and history section, not in the bank passbook.
How to enable and use UPI Lite on Google Pay
To activate UPI Lite on the Google Pay app, users can simply go to their profile page and tap on the activation button.
Once the linking process is completed, users will be able to add funds up to Rs 2,000 to their UPI Lite account, with a maximum daily limit of Rs 4,000.
If the transaction value is less than or equal to INR 200 and the UPI Lite balance is sufficient, the UPI LITE account will be automatically selected. To complete the transaction, users just need to tap on the “Pay PIN-Free” option.
“At Google Pay, we feel privileged to partner with the Indian government along with NPCI and RBI, in growing the reach and usefulness of UPI. Unique offerings and use cases are core to driving further adoption of digital payments in the country and with the introduction of UPI LITE on the platform, we aim to simplify small-value transactions by helping users access a convenient, compact and superfast payments experience,” said Ambarish Kenghe, VP Product Management at Google.
