Hamilton leaves Brundle red-faced as Alonso disgusted at Hungarian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton has left Martin Brundle looking rather silly by clinching pole just minutes after the Sky Sports reporter suggested that the Mercedes star had already ‘passed the baton’ onto Lando Norris.

Brundle felt Norris’ defence against Hamilton at the Silverstone GP – where he finished second ahead of the Mercedes star – showed that he was the future of British racing. However, Hamilton’s former foe Nico Rosberg leapt to the seven-time world champion’s defence, saying: “Martin please slow down, Lewis is not quite done yet. He was first in FP3 there.”

Hamilton went one better a little later as he stole pole position by just 0.03 seconds and will now start ahead of Max Verstappen at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Meanwhile, a huge talking point in Budapest this weekend has left Fernando Alonso feeling ‘horrible’.

The Aston Martin star was left feeling disgruntled after F1 changed the rules governing tyre allocation and restricted each car to just 11 sets of slick Pirelli rubber over the weekend as well as locking the teams into running hard tyres in Q1, medium tyres in Q2, and softs in Q3. Discussing the rule change, he said: “For me it’s horrible. I think that if you pay an entry fee of 300, 400, 500 euros, these barbarities and we can’t go out because we are reserving tyres.”
