How to create a secret folder on Windows to store private files – Times of India

Introduction
Windows is the most widely used operating system on PC and offers a tonne of tips, and tricks that most users are unaware of, such as making a folder with no name.
Blank folder on Windows
Windows users can hide a folder from File Explorer and render that folder, and all the files it contains, nearly undeletable. Users will not need anything more than that combination and an encryption protocol to conceal and secure private files from unauthorised access.
Such a folder has no icon and no name in the form of text, so it cannot be seen unless the mouse is hovering over it. This folder can be used to store any private documents that you don’t want other users, especially children, to see or access.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you create a secret folder on your Windows computer:

Creating a folder with no name

  1. Right click on your Windows PC home screen to create a new folder.
  2. Select the New option, and then click on the Folder option from the drop-down menu displayed.
  3. Once created, right click on the folder to rename it.
  4. For the following, you will require a full-size keyboard (one with a Numpad on the right).
  5. Then, enter Alt+0160, which is the Alt-code shortcut for a no-break space.
  6. A new folder with no name will be created.

Removing the folder icon

  1. Right click on the newly created folder with no name.
  2. Go to the Properties option from the drop-down menu displayed.
  3. Click on the Customise tab.
  4. Then, select the Change icon option.
  5. Choose one of the empty icons from the available default four options by scrolling to the right.

Conclusion
Now, you have a secret and non-detectable folder with no name or icon on your Windows PC. The folder is only visible when it is clicked on, is a part of a selection window, or is being hovered by a mouse. If you use a folder like this on your desktop, you should put it there in a different spot. This secret folder can contain subfolders.
Tabs in Notepad on Windows 11
Recently, Microsoft unintentionally revealed a feature it is developing for the Notepad app in Windows 11. The company might add tabs to the Notepad app, just like the tabs in the file explorer in the most recent OS version.
The Notepad app will function in a manner similar to how tabs in web browsers allow users to open multiple websites in a single window. In order to open multiple ‘.txt’ files in the same window, users may be able to open tabs that appear along the top of the app (similar to tabs in File Explorer).
