Liverpool’s dazzling XI with Dominik Szoboszlai and three other transfers
Liverpool may be planning to provide an incredible new lineup for Jurgen Klopp by firmly attacking the transfer window. The German has been keen to overhaul the Reds’ midfield this summer and has already brought in Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, but now they are reportedly looking to pair him with RB Leipzig star Dominik Szoboszlai. Here, Express Sport looks at how Liverpool could line up next season after making a splash in the transfer window.
Goalkeeper: Alisson
Alisson was one of the few Liverpool players that maintained their form during a disappointing campaign in 2022/23, without him it is unlikely that a finish as high as fifth would have been secured thanks to a string of top saves throughout the season.
In the Brazilian, Klopp knows that goalkeeper is one area he will not have to upgrade on in the summer – though could be on the lookout for a backup if interest is followed up on Caoimhin Kelleher.
Defence: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Goncalo Inacio
Liverpool’s traditional back four has overseen a transformation over the past few months. Trent Alexander-Arnold has moved into an inverted role that has seen him take up positions in midfield, as opposed to a traditional right-back.
The centre-backs may have to cover more ground in Alexander-Arnold’s absence, forcing Andy Robertson to become a much more defensive full-back in the ilk of Nathan Ake at Manchester City. Klopp could in turn look to add another left-sided defender to help the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.
Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio has been mentioned with a move to Anfield and would certainly provide that option. Spanish outlet AS have claimed that Liverpool are keen to make a move for the 21-year-old in the coming weeks, but the Portuguese club are demanding a high fee for their star defender.
Midfield: Dominik Szoboszlai, Khephren Thuram, Alexis Mac Allister
Klopp could have an entirely new-look midfield, after already sealing a deal for Mac Allister. Further additions have been deemed necessary, as The Athletic have claimed that Liverpool are exploring a move for Leipzig star Szoboszlai. The German side would likely command a big fee but it is yet to be revealed whether the Reds are willing to make a huge splash to land the Hungarian.
Szoboszlai and Mac Allister could be joined by Nice star Khephren Thuram, who continues to be linked with a move to Anfield. CBS Sports have claimed that the Frenchman is “the one to watch now in terms of Liverpool” as he can play a holding role and further forward, which would likely appeal to Klopp who could fit all three potential signings in the same team together – albeit at a likely expensive cost.
