Maguire has faced mutiny from three players at Man Utd after new twist

Earlier in the week, Marcos Rojo opted to speak out against Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire. The Argentina international, who left Old Trafford for Boca Juniors back in the summer transfer window, said he’d asked to play ahead of his old team-mate. And Rojo isn’t the only player who has spoken out about the current Red Devils captain.

Manchester United signed Maguire back in the summer transfer window of 2019 believing he’d be the ticket to Premier League title glory.

Nearly four years on, however, and the England international finds himself on the fringes of the action – with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane often starting instead.

Earlier in the week, Rojo decided to publicly criticise Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for always sticking by Maguire – regardless of his form.

Speaking to TyC Sports, he said: “In 2019 I was playing in the Europa League, but I was really angry with the Manchester coach [Solskjaer] because he was putting Maguire [in the team] instead of me, who thank god finally they took him out from the starting line-up for Licha [Lisandro] Martinez.

“One day I went to Solskjaer’s office to tell him to let me leave for the other club or put [me] in the starting line-up.

And Bailly, speaking earlier in the season, suggested he had issues with United by prioritising English players over foreign stars.

“The club should avoid favouring English players and give everyone a chance,” he said.

“They should encourage competition in the dressing room, not just look out for some. I’ve always had the feeling that the national player was prioritised.

“That doesn’t happen at Chelsea or other big Premier League clubs.

“Some people take it for granted that they are going to start, and that weakens the team. Luckily [Erik] Ten Hag has a lot of character and I hope he can change that dynamic.

“I played important games and in some I was chosen as the best player. I think when I was given the opportunity I rose to the occasion.

“I just lacked consistency, because I think I deserved more minutes.”

Back in August, it also emerged Cristiano Ronaldo had some problems with Maguire as well.

It was claimed the veteran had requested Maguire be stripped of the captaincy during a team meeting when Ralf Rangnick ruled the roost.

Ronaldo, it was said, also wanted his team-mate to be dropped to the bench amid growing concerns over his form.

Rangnick, for his part, then dismissed the chat – saying it was ‘inappropriate’ due to the fact Maguire wasn’t in attendance.

Ronaldo apparently doubled down on his comments, however, while a handful of other players dropped their complaints entirely.

All in all, Maguire is now clearly facing a fight to save his United career.

And whether he stays at Old Trafford come the close of the summer transfer window is something only time will tell.
