Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag drops major Mason Greenwood hint as Juventus eye deal

Erik ten Hag has hinted there could be a way back for Mason Greenwood at Manchester United, having complimented the 21-year-old’s ability to score goals. The England international forward remains suspended indefinitely by the Red Devils since January 2022 despite the fact the rape and assault charges against his name were dropped earlier this year in February.

United have been reluctant to bring Greenwood back into the fold as they fear they will be faced with fierce backlash from both supporters and the media.

Nonetheless, it appears Greenwood remains in Ten Hag’s thoughts ahead of the 2023/24 season having referenced the talented forward’s ability to score goals.

Ten Hag was asked by The Times whether he was in need of another striker to assist Marcus Rashford in attack.

The conversation then moved on to Greenwood and Ten Hag was complimentary of his goal-scoring ability, stating: “[He] showed in the past that he is capable of doing that [scoring goals].”

The Dutchman also emphasised that Greenwood’s future was going to be decided by the club – not him.

United could be faced with a major decision on the player’s future this summer as Juventus are said to be plotting a permanent transfer swoop.

Ten Hag is believed to have already held private talks with Greenwood after the charges against his name were dropped.

Greenwood is also alleged to have told his inner circle that he does not expect to ever play football for Manchester United again.

The tricky forward has not featured since way back in January 2022 when he played in United’s 1-0 win over West Ham.

There is understood to be concern that Greenwood’s return would not be well received by the majority of the first team if he was to be introduced back into the fold.

United are continuing to carry out their own investigation before deciding whether Greenwood has a future at Old Trafford.

Other clubs from Europe including Italy and Turkey have already expressed an interest in signing him – despite the damaging saga.

Juventus are long-term admirers of the player having previously offered Greenwood “life-changing money” to sign for the Bianconeri during his teenage years.

According to journalist Andy Mitten, Juventus knew of Greenwood’s sky-high potential last year when they tried to prise him away from the Premier League with a lucrative package.

Andy Mitten previously said on the Talk of The Devils podcast back in 2020: “I know that there have been offers for him. Go back a year and Juventus were prepared to offer his family life-changing amounts of money.”

Greenwood’s current contract is due to run until June 2025, although United have the option to extend it by an additional 12 months.
