Man Utd rivalled in Onana pursuit as Saudi club Al-Nassr ‘make lucrative offer’

Manchester United have reportedly been ‘rivalled’ for goalkeeper target Andre Onana by mega-rich Saudi outfit Al-Nassr. It has been claimed that the Middle East club have made a ‘lucrative’ offer for the Inter Milan star, who has been tipped to replace David De Gea at Old Trafford.

Onana has been identified by United staff as a possible upgrade on De Gea. The Cameroon international is extremely comfortable in possession and shone during Inter’s surprise run to the Champions League final, making him a stand-out candidate to be the Spaniard’s long-term replacement.

However, the Red Devils have reportedly been rocked by a reported rival offer from Saudi Arabia. Al-Nassr, the club Cristiano Ronaldo joined following his acrimonious Old Trafford exit, are claimed to have made a huge offer for the shot-stopper.

Onana is reportedly the first-choice goalkeeper target for Al-Nassr, who will miss former Arsenal man David Ospina for a large part of the campaign due to an injury. De Gea, who is now out of contract after failing to agree a new deal with the Premier League side before July 1, has also been eyed by the Saudi Pro League runners-up.

According to CBS Sports, Al-Nassr have made a ‘lucrative’ proposal to Onana. United are now under pressure to conclude talks with Inter over the signing of the 27-year-old.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that United are in dialogue with the Serie A side over a move for Onana. However, no official bid has been launched.

Speaking last week, Marotta said: “Manchester United expressed a particular interest, but that needs to blossom into making a proposal over the next few days. That happens, both Inter and the player will make a careful evaluation.”

United are set to begin pre-season with Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton as their only senior goalkeepers. To make the situation even more uneasy for Old Trafford chiefs, Henderson is widely expected to depart this summer.

He spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but his campaign was ended prematurely by injury. United loaned Jack Butland from Crystal Palace in January but the former England man has since joined Rangers.

It leaves United desperately scrambling for goalkeeper upgrades with just over a month to go until the 2023-24 season opener against Wolves at Old Trafford. They will hope they can lure Onana to the Premier League by persuading him to reject an astronomical offer from Al-Nassr.
