Minecraft Will No Longer Use Reddit In Light Of The API Changes

Mojang has announced that it’ll no longer use Reddit to post official updates for Minecraft. Going forward, the team will now use the Minecraft website or another social media platform to give updates.

The news comes from Reddit user sliced_lime (via PCGamer). According to their Reddit bio, they are a “Minecraft developer,” and is said to be Mikael Hedberg, a tech lead for the Java edition of the game. It’s still unsure what platform Mojang might use, but GameSpot has contacted the company for comment. They state the reasoning for leaving the platform is largely due to Reddits changes over its API. The Reddit post reads:

“As you have no doubt heard by now, Reddit management introduced changes recently that have led to rule and moderation changes across many subreddits. Because of these changes, we no longer feel that Reddit is an appropriate place to post official content or refer our players to.”

In light of these recent events, various subreddit mods have organized a protest to voice their opinions on the platform’s changes by going private, meaning that most of their content would become unavailable. More than 7,000 subreddits participated in these protests, including some of the most popular landing spots, such as r/funny, r/aww, r/gaming, and r/music.
