Shubman Gill hits ODI double hundred: Here are 5 other Indian batsmen who have scored double ton

Indian right-handed opening batsman Shubman Gill today hit a double century in an ODI match against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He also becomes the fastest Indian cricketer to score 1,000 ODI runs today.

The 23-year old Gill scored 208 runs in 149 balls. In his stroke-filled knock, he hit nine sixes and 19 fours in this innings. The right-hander batter overtook Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, who jointly held the previous record at 24 innings to become the fastest Indian and the joint-second fastest ever to 1,000 runs mark in ODIs. He equalled Pakistan opener Iman-ul-Haq for breaching the 1000-run mark in 19 innings while missing out on another Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman’s record of fastest to 1000 ODI runs in 18 innings.

Here are other Indian batsmen who have hit double hundred in ODI cricket:

Out of total 10 double hundreds scored in international ODI men’s cricket, seven double centuries are scored by Indian batsmen.

Sachin Tendulkar: India’s master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was the first men to hit the double century in an ODI against South Africa in Gwalior in 2010. He scored 200* runs in 147 balls.

Virender Sehwag: This was followed by Virender Sehwag’s 219 in the 2011 world cup match against West Indies.

Rohit Sharma holds the record of hitting three double hundreds in ODIs in 2013, 2014 and 2017. He scored 209 against Australia in Bengaluru, 264 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata and 208* against Sri Lanka in Mohali.

Rohit’s 264 is the highest individual score in ODIs

Ishant Kishan (2022): 210 against Bangladesh in Chittagram.

Shubman Gill (2023): 208 against New Zealand in Hyderabad.

Apart from these Indian batsmen, New Zealand’s MJ Guptill, West Indian Chris Gayle and Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman have also scored double centuries in the international ODI cricket.
