Spider-Man Noir Live-Action Series Is Coming to Amazon

A live-action series following Spider-Man Noir is coming to Amazon, as Variety reported today and IGN can confirm.

The outlet reports that the series will follow the grizzled superhero in 1930s New York and that it will be set in its own universe, not following Peter Parker as the main character. The show was developed by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and Orien Uziel, who will write and executive produce.

It’s the latest attempt from Sony to widen its Spidey universe, who’s been cranking out movies like the beloved Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its upcoming sequel, two Venom films, and last year’s much less-successful Morbius.

Lately, though, Sony has been attempting to move the IP into live-action television, having struck a deal with Amazon last year to develop multiple shows based on characters in Spider-Man’s universe. Silk: Spider Society was the first TV show announced as part of the deal.

Part of the Marvel Noir universe, Spider-Man Noir was created by writers David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky and designers Carmine Di Giandomenico and Marko Djurdjevic. He first appeared in the four-issue miniseries Spider-Man: Noir #1 in 2009. A much more brutal and lethal version of Spider-Man than the more widely known Peter Parker, Spider-Man Noir takes on the criminal underworld of a Great Depression-era New York.

He’s made a number of appearances throughout Spider-Man media, including 2010 video game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man, and most recently, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where he was voiced by Nicolas Cage.
