Tencent: Former PUBG Mobile Publisher Invests in Lighthouse Games, a Studio Established by Former Forza Horizon Devs

The former PUBG Mobile and PUBG: Battlegrounds publisher Tencent has now invested in UK’s AAA studio, Lighthouse Games. The studio itself was announced earlier this year in March. It was founded by Forza Horizon developer Playground Games’ former head and co-founder Gavin Raeburn. Here’s all you need to know about this latest update.

Tencent invests in Lighthouse Games

The news comes via GamesIndustry.biz. According to Raeburn’s statement about the investment, the nature is reportedly purely financial as the members of the studio will continue to control its creative and publishing decisions. Tencent’s funding will be invested in “new technology and recruitment”. However, the specifics of the value of the investment have not yet been made public.

Speaking to the publication, Raeburn explains,

“An investment of this scale allows us to grow our team and prove the vision for our game and remain completely independent, whilst still leveraging the skills and experience of one of the world’s largest video game publishers.”

Lighthouse Games is already known to be working on an unannounced new IP, as was revealed during the announcement back in March. It is reportedly being developed by Raeburn, along with “a team of world class developers”. About Tencent’s investment, affecting the development of this new game in progress, Raeburn says, “This new beginning also enables us to build our game from the ground up, with no legacy tech or architecture to work around.”

Lighthouse Games is comprised of some of the “key founding members” of Playground Games, excluding Raeburn. With a successful franchise like Forza Horizon as a part of their past records, and now the investment of Tencent, we can expect something interesting cooking at Playground Games.
