Tottenham are, according to reports, extremely keen on hiring Vincent Kompany as their new manager. The Belgian has impressed at Burnley since taking charge back in the summer, with the Clarets on the brink of Premier League promotion. However, his latest comments suggest he’s committed to the cause at Turf Moor.
Tottenham decided to axe Antonio Conte earlier in the week, with the Italian shown the door following a rant about his players and the board following a 3-3 draw with Southampton.
And The Sun have since claimed Kompany is now the ‘leading contender’ to take over in north London.
However, the Belgian has now made it abundantly clear that he’s happy at Burnley – while also insisting he’s got big dreams for the future.
“The way I am as a person, my starting point is: ‘Okay, where can this place go?’” the 36-year-old told Sky Sports.
“You know, because everybody is talking about our limits, but we are the only ones who can judge our own limits I think.

“So, my first thing is where this place can go and that consumes my every moment.
“So, as much as I love the club – I want to show an example – when we left Manchester City, I love the club. But, my first thought is not like: ‘Oh, it’d be nice to…’. My first thought is how we can close the gap.
“I think that is my job as a manager.
“Is there something impossible that’s being done over there? Or is it something possible for us?
“That’s my job. That’s what I do and that’s the only thing that bothers me.
“And the rest? I don’t know. I think, in football, when you find a good place – it’s worth really protecting that.”
Kompany has also recently suggested he sees Burnley as a long-term, rather than a short-term project.
“It’s really difficult to maintain consistency across the season, but, for us, it’s been really important to set our targets,” he stated.
“We are thinking more about a cycle. We’ve got a three or four-year period together.
“Can we continue that and keep improving the club? That’s the aim.”
Whether Burnley can keep Tottenham at bay, however, remains to be seen.
The appeal of working at a big Premier League side could tempt the former Manchester City captain, despite his recent comments.
But Kompany isn’t the only name in the frame to take over in the capital, with Tottenham also having an interest in five other managers.
Julian Nagelsmann is one, with the German a free agent following his brutal sacking at Bayern Munich.
Mauricio Pochettino returning remains a possibility, with the Argentine on the market following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season.
Tottenham are admirers of Luis Enrique, who quit as Spain boss following a poor World Cup in Qatar.
And Marco Silva and Thomas Frank are also under consideration amid their positive work at Fulham and Brentford.
Tottenham are hellbent on winning trophies, having failed to claim any silverware since 2008.
They beat Chelsea to win the Carabao Cup final that year courtesy of goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Jonathan Woodgate.
