Toyota Teases Off-Road SUV Duo and Electric Scooter – Is the FJ Cruiser Making a Comeback? – Smartprix

During the Land Cruiser 250 Series unveiling event, Toyota showcased its latest offerings, with three intriguing products shrouded in mystery. Among them were two robust off-road SUVs—one boasting a contemporary crossover design and another featuring a more compact, classic boxy aesthetic. Additionally, Toyota surprised attendees with the introduction of an off-road three-wheeler scooter, adding an unexpected twist to the lineup.

New Off-Road SUVs

The Land Cruiser lineup from the renowned Japanese automotive giant has long been a favorite in the off-road enthusiast community. With the introduction of the Land Cruiser 250 Series, Toyota is setting its sights on delivering a rugged off-roader that could potentially challenge the likes of the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler. In a recent presentation, Toyota unveiled two enigmatic SUVs alongside a surprising addition—a scooter. Starting with the leftmost vehicle, it bears a striking resemblance to the Toyota Compact Cruiser EV concept, which made its debut in 2021.

The uncanny similarities between the two suggest a strong connection, although some features are likely to be refined in the production model. This new SUV could very well be the successor to the recently discontinued FJ Cruiser, which had an impressive 17-year-long run. In fact, the vehicle showcased in Toyota’s presentation appears nearly identical to the Compact Cruiser EV concept.

The resemblance between the new Land Cruiser 250 Series and the Compact Cruiser EV concept goes beyond mere coincidence, extending to their profiles, LED headlights, DRL signature, sturdy bumpers, LED tail lights, and overall silhouette. However, the production model distinguishes itself with a rear-mounted spare wheel, heightened ground clearance, off-road tires, and more standard side mirrors, toning down some of the flamboyant elements seen on the concept vehicle. Notably, the rear doors have shifted to a conventional design, departing from the FJ Cruiser’s suicide-door layout.

Additionally, both the production version of the Compact Cruiser and the second SUV featured in Toyota’s presentation are rumored to adopt the iconic Land Cruiser name. Toyota is strongly considering an all-electric powertrain for these vehicles, further aligning with the automotive industry’s push towards electrification. Expected to hit the market around 2025, these models represent Toyota’s bold step towards redefining the off-road experience while embracing the future of electric mobility.

In Toyota’s recent presentation, a second SUV with a sleek electric design was unveiled, hinting at a fully electric powertrain. This model, larger than the potential FJ Cruiser replacement, suggests a diverse range in Toyota’s lineup. Alongside, a futuristic three-wheeled electric scooter designed for single riders was introduced, representing a novel take on personal mobility. While its availability in India remains uncertain, there’s growing anticipation for the arrival of the new mid-size SUV in the Indian market.
