Zomato UPI launched in India: what is it, how to use

What is Zomato UPI?

With the launch of Zomato UPI, users can now register to create a new UPI ID, after which they can continue to use the Zomato app to make payments rather than being sent to another app like Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, or another one as it is the case for some users currently.

The platform is also hoping that customers would find the new arrangement less complicated and choose UPI payments more frequently in place of cash-on-delivery (COD) orders.

How does Zomato UPI work?

  • Start up the Zomato app on your computer.
  • Click on the part of your Zomato account called “Profile.”
  • Scroll down until you see the choice for Zomato UPI.
  • Click “Activate Zomato UPI”
  • Set the Zomato UPI ID you want.
  • When asked, choose your cell number.
  • Connect your bank account to the Zomato app so that you can pay for things easily.

Currently, a small group of people can use the Zomato UPI service as the newly announced service is a part of the pilot program. In the coming months, there are plans to make this service available to all Zomato users. Zomato’s first partnership was with ICICI Bank, but there are plans to make more partnerships with banks in the near future.

Flipkart UPI coming soon

In a similar vein, Flipkart, a leading e-commerce company based in Bengaluru, is also said to be working on launching its own UPI service. According to media reports, the objective behind this move is to offer customers their own UPI products and enhance their overall experience. Furthermore, various tech giants such as Amazon, WhatsApp, Tata Neu, and MakeMyTrip have already introduced their own UPI services, demonstrating the growing popularity and widespread adoption of UPI-based payment systems.
